Atom Goes Funky – new album out now
On 26 June 2026, Atom String Quartet released their 9th solo album – „Atom Goes Funky”. The record was issued by Warner Music Poland as part of the iconic Polish Jazz series, no. 91. It is the first album in the series recorded by a string quartet.
The album is a journey into Polish music of the 1970s and 80s, when jazz met funk in the unmistakable atmosphere of a country behind the Iron Curtain. The quartet drew on compositions by such icons as Zbigniew Namysłowski, Michał Urbaniak, Władysław Sendecki, Krzesimir Dębski, Andrzej Zaucha, and Novi Singers, as well as repertoire by Perfect and Kombi – all given a distinctly „atomic” treatment.
„‚Atom Goes Funky’ is an album about the past, but also about the here and now. It is very much about who we are. We want it to transport listeners into the world of Polish funk – colourful, vivid, and ours.” – say the quartet’s musicians.
The album is available in audiophile-quality sound on hybrid Super Audio CD, on 2-disc vinyl, and on streaming platforms: https://polishjazz.lnk.to/AtomGoesFunky
