Atom Goes Funky – premiere of the new album
Atom String Quartet returns with the album „Atom Goes Funky” – a journey into Polish music of the 1970s and 1980s, when in a country behind the Iron Curtain and on the threshold of change, jazz met funk. The music was accompanied by the sound of new, often electric instruments. The album premiere is scheduled for the end of June.
The repertoire includes compositions by such artists as Zbigniew Seifert, Krzesimir Dębski, Zbigniew Namysłowski, Michał Urbaniak, Władysław Sendecki, Andrzej Zaucha, and Novi Singers. Alongside them are works by the bands Perfect and Kombi. Although not all of them fit the literal definition of funk, they are united by a shared pulse, groove, and the characteristic sound of that era.
In the new material, the quartet has found space for its own string reinterpretations – bringing out the color, rhythm, and freedom of the period in the language of a contemporary quartet.
„Atom Goes Funky” will be released by Warner Music as part of the Polish Jazz series, as number 91. It is the first album in this iconic series recorded by a string quartet.
Recorded at Studio S4 of Polish Radio.
