UNIVERSUM nominated for Fryderyk Award in the Jazz Album of the Year Category

The seventh album by Atom String Quartet, released in January 2024, has been nominated for this year’s Fryderyk Awards 2025 in the Jazz Album of the Year category.

Mateusz Smoczyński is also in the running for an award in the Jazz Composer of the Year category.

The winners will be announced during the first-ever Gala of Jazz Music Fryderyk Festival 2025, which will take place on Sunday, March 23, at the Polin Museum in Warsaw. The event will be streamed live on social media, with a rebroadcast available on TVP Kultura.

Atom String Quartet is one of the ensembles set to perform during this event. The full list of nominated artists can be found on the website: www.fryderyki.pl.

The jury’s justification reads: “Released under the simple title “Komeda”, the album documents a deeply emotional tribute to Krzysztof Komeda – a pioneer of new European jazz. Pianist Joachim Kühn, a friend and admirer of the tragically deceased visionary, presents his compositions in an individual way, entering new musical territories The successful symbiosis of his New Trio with the Atom String Quartet makes the musicians’ interpretations both virtuosic and spiritual.
